Alternative Punctuation
Concept and Glyph Design
Language exists in a constant ebb & flow of form and definition. While the words we use are almost never concrete, the marks we punctuate with remain static. Through research, surveying & experimental glyph design I chased the question, “What could new punctuation marks look like?”
Presented are 3 punctuation marks to denote the written emotional tones of sarcasm, authority a caring. Distinct from emojis or ideographs the punctuation marks follow historical precedent as handwritten marks adaptable to digital spaces and various typeface design styles.
